Willow Class

Miss Ball and Mrs Needham

Welcome to Foundation 2 Willow! This page will give you an insight into the exciting learning that happens in our class.

Science Week

Science week has been full of predicting, testing, observing and concluding. We based our learning around the book 'Maddi's fridge'. We started the week by colour hunting, making colour rainbows and discussing the importance of colour. Then we set up an experiment to show the best place to keep food. We tried the radiator, the window sill, outside and the fridge. After that, we have looked at the importance of a healthy diet and discussed what we should be doing before we start eating our food.

World Book Day

We loved getting into our pyjamas and getting comfy on the bean bags to read a non fiction book.

Chinese New Year

In preparation for Chinese New Year, we have been learning about what happens in the home during this occasion. We have been making decorations, making spring rolls, creating firework paintings and writing good luck messages.

Pesky Rat

OH NO! We have had a visitor in Foundation and he has been a bit naughty. Pesky rat came to tell us that he could not find a home. We spoke about what we like and dislike about certain homes.

What makes a home?

For the home learning task the children were asked to make their house. The children have been talking about the similarities and differences between the houses.

Christmas party time!

The children had a wonderful time at our Christmas party. We got to see Santa, open our present, playing lots of games and eat hot dogs.

Our Showcase

To reflect on our question this half term, 'What do we treasure?' the children had the chance to explain their learning to parents.

What do Hindus treasure?

We looked at the celebration of Diwali. The children learnt what Hindus do on each day of Diwali. Hindus like to decorate their houses with lights so the children made Diva lamps.

What toys do you treasure?

The children received a special delivery from the museum. It was a suitcase full of different toys. As a class we spoke about old and new toys. The children brought in their favourite toys to describe and talk about.

Farmers' Market

During Farmers' Market week, we evaluated existing biscuits by tasting different ones. Then, we designed our own biscuits. Finally, we followed a recipe to make our biscuits and decorated them to make them look like pirate skulls.

Languages Day

On Languages day, our chosen country was Greece. We learnt Greek phrases, a Greek dance and tasted Greek food. The children loved learning about a different country. Take a look at a few pictures. . .

Treasure Hunt

We have been reading 'My Granny is a pirate' and Granny lost all of her belongings around our school! She was really kind and left us a treasure map to follow so we could help her find different items. We loved searching around school and found so many different things! Granny was very happy we found her glasses because she could not see very well. Thanks to Willow class we have a delighted Granny again!

Captain Dread

Captain Dread came to visit Foundation! He told us how to be a real pirate, he answered our questions and read us a story. Then we did the pirate Jig, Captain Dread was a great dancer!

Knowledge Organiser & Topic Overview

This half term we will be answering our question 'What do we treasure?' Have a look at our topic overview to see what we will be learning. To help us answer our question the children will be learning our key words on our knowledge organiser.

Our Class Charter

Last week as a class we looked at good choices and bad choices. The children placed our good choices in the treasure chest and we threw away the bad choices into the sea. We all signed our treasure chest with our finger print to show we agree to making good choices.
