Acacia ClaSs

Miss Chisholm and Mrs Bradshaw

Welcome to Year 4 Acacia! This page will give you an insight into the exciting learning that happens in our class.

Class Rewards

Individual Points

We can receive Dojo points for participating in class discussions, working hard, being on task, helping others and demonstrating persistence.

Team Points

In class, we receive table pom poms when we work well as a team. Each week, these are counted up and the winning table is awarded 'Buddy,' our class trophy.

House Points

House points are given out by any member of staff for outstanding work or behaviour, in and around school. Each house point brings our house team closer to winning at the end of the year!

Spring Term

Y4 times tables check parent meeting on 27.2.20.

Please see the slides below that were used during the meeting.

How can small actions eventually change the world?

This is our enquiry question for the spring term. We will be looking at answering the question from a geographical point of view. We will explore our question in many lessons including: English, science, geography, P4C and more. Keep an eye out on our class page for updates on our learning journey!

Article 29: "I have the right to an education that develops my personality, respect for others' rights and the environment."

Find out what we got up to at Moorland Discovery Centre! (3.3.20)

As part of our geography and science learning, we visited Padley Gorge to undertake a river study. We learnt about the different stages of a river and how it fits in to the water cycle. We carried out experiments to see how fast the river was flowing, as well as using our observational skills to describe and draw the features of the river. We had a great (but very cold) day! Take a look at our photos below...

The Water Cycle!

This week, we have been investigating the water cycle. We have set up an experiment, using carrier bags, water and felt pens - take a look at our classroom window to find out what we did! Don't miss out on our video that shows actions we made up to help us remember the processes within in the water cycle.

We are looking forward to our school trip on Tuesday 3rd March, where we will learn more about the water cycle, and rivers!

During our English and computing lessons, we have worked in groups to create PowerPoints to answer our enquiry question so far. Take a look below...

Article 12 "Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously."

That's the plastic rap!

By Eve Y4 Acacia

Wow! Take a look at some of our home learning projects so far. They link to our Spring enquiry question...

We are scientists!

Here we are carrying out some experiments to investigate how sounds are made. We learnt that all sounds are made through vibrations. We used a tuning fork in water to see the vibrations as the water rippled. Next, we used rice grains on a drum to find out what happens when louder sounds are made.

We can't wait to find out more!

P.E.

During physical education lessons, we have begun to explore gymnastics. This week, we looked at balancing on larger body parts. We thought about how strength and technique are important when balancing.

Autumn Term

What makes a great story?

Final Reflection

As the Autumn term came to a close, we thought carefully about our enquiry question. To answer our question, we looked back at a range of answers that we compiled at different points throughout the term. We also reflected on the work in our books, thinking about how this helps us to answer the question from a historical perspective.

Here is a final reflection from Zac, Y4 Acacia.

History Learning

We are coming to the end of our history discover topic. We have had lots of fun learning about different battles throughout history, and we have thought about how these make great stories! In computing, we have used our history knowledge of the Battle of Bosworth to create an animated StopMotion story, based on the battle. We have also enjoyed testing our knowledge through a Kahoot quiz! Take a look at some of the pictures below for an insight into our learning journey.

Physical Education

This term, we have received coaching from a Hatters basketball coach. We have really enjoyed learning about passing and dribbling techniques!

Times Table Rockstars

We have been using TT Rockstars to practise our times tables. You can also go on at home via the website https://ttrockstars.com/

Who will be at the top of our class leader board?

Don't forget to check your homework book to see which times tables you need to practise the most!

Science

In science this week, we made electrical switches, using our knowledge of electrical conductors and insulators! Take a look below...

In science, we are learning about Electricity. We have been exploring items that run on electricity and those that do not. We have built a simple series circuit and have investigated ways to make our bulb shine brighter. Stay tuned to see what we learn about next!

Farmers' Market 2019

During Enterprise week, we each designed a 'Worry Buddy' which we then went on to sell at the Farmers' Market. We practised different sewing stitches including: running stitch, back stitch and whip stitch. We were very happy with our final products and managed to sell them all for a profit that goes to charity. Take a look at the photographs below showcasing our fantastic designs.

During our first term in year 4, we visited Bosworth Heritage Centre in Leicestershire to explore artefacts and learn about The Battle of Bosworth, and The War of the Roses. We had lots of fun dressing up in armour and we even learnt how to fight on the battlefield like a real soldier.
