Through Inspired Learning We Achieve Our Dreams

A A A

We Are Acacia!

What is my child going to learn about this term?

We have sent home a copy of the learning we have planned for your child this term. On this sheet you should find an explanation of what will be covered for each area of the national curriculum. You will also find aspects we describe as ‘memorable experiences’. These are the elements that will bring the learning to life for the children. You will also see an ‘end product’ section. Here we describe what the children are working towards; this could be a display, performance or a piece of writing. We believe this helps to give the children a focus or reason for learning the information. You will also find references made to ‘drip and block’. Drip refers to things that happen all the time, such as spellings, for example. Block refers to things that do not fall naturally into the theme and as such are taught as discreet, unrelated units.

We hope that this information, coupled with the class newsletters and the planners will give you a deeper understanding of the year your child is going to have in school. It might also give you some ideas for how you can best support them.

Celebrating VE Day!

We had a fantastic morning in the sunshine on Friday celebrating the end of World War 2. The children (and adults) have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and everyone made a fantastic effort with their costumes. We took part in lots of traditional street party activities such as making flags, hula hooping, tin can alley, making newspaper party hats and of course, eating plenty of cakes and biscuits!

I hope you all have a great half term holiday :-)

Our Fair Trade Movie!

We all contributed to a whole school movie, which was shown at a special movie night screening on Monday 20th March, showcasing our Fair Trade Fortnight learning.

We hope you enjoy watching our chapter from the movie!

ElectroCity Workshop!

To complete our learning all about electricity, John, from ElectroCity, ran a brilliant workshop for us on Wednesday morning.

First, we all designed and built a building for our city. We had to think very carefully about the height of the walls, where we would build the windows and how we build the roof. Then, we connected our buildings by building roads between them. Finally, we built a simple circuit using crocodile clips, a battery, a bulb and a switch to make our cities light up!

We all had a brilliant time and there were lots of very creative design ideas. Thank you John!

Amy, from the charity Sustrans visited us on Tuesday afternoon. She showed us how to use the inner tube of a bicycle wheel to create some interesting jewellery. Thank you Amy!

The children produced some brilliant posters, presentations and leaflets all about saving energy for their homework last week.

Take a look at Kai's and Joseph's videos!

We had some great fun with Jack from EXCEL this afternoon.

We learned some martial arts and played a game of Sensei Says!

Thank you Jack!

Safer Internet Day

It was Safer Internet Day on Tuesday. We had some discussions in class about how to use the internet safely. We focussed on sharing images online and talked about the ‘first impressions’ that people have when looking at a photograph and the types of images that we would choose to share with others. We also created some 'Top Tips' posters for sharing images online.

Sporting Success!

Well done to the year 4 basketball and gymnastics teams who represented Mosborough at competitions last week!

There was lots of great sportsmanship on show and the children had a brilliant time.

Shaky Hand Games

We had a brilliant afternoon on Thursday creating our 'Shaky Hand Games' with Mr Rodgers! We started to learn about the different parts in a circuit and how electricity flows. First, we had to design our game. Then, we had the opportunity to use lots of different DT equipment such as: a drill, a line bender, pliers and glue gun. Some parts were a little tricky but luckily we had Mrs Timms, Mrs Sefton and Mrs Booth on hand to help out too!

Our final products were a great success. Thank you Mr Rodgers!

We have had a brilliant first term in Y4 Acacia and a very festive final week.

Merry Christmas everyone!

We have some produced some fantastic posters all about decimals for our homework this week.

Take a look at Joseph's brilliant video!

Our value this half term is 'Being the best that we can be'.

Here are some photos of us being the best that we can in PE!

We are brilliant mathematicians in Acacia! We are now experts in decimal numbers - take a look at some of our learning below!

We really enjoyed hearing about Joseph's and Finley's cricketing success last week. I am sure there will be many more to come!

We had great fun in our judo workshop on Tuesday!

We learned that judo means 'gentle way' and is a type of martial art that originated in Japan.
