Through Inspired Learning We Achieve Our Dreams

A A A

We Are Cherry!

What is my child going to learn about this term?

We have sent home a copy of the learning we have planned for your child this term. On this sheet you should find an explanation of what will be covered for each area of the national curriculum. You will also find aspects we describe as ‘memorable experiences’. These are the elements that will bring the learning to life for the children. You will also see an ‘end product’ section. Here we describe what the children are working towards; this could be a display, performance or a piece of writing. We believe this helps to give the children a focus or reason for learning the information.

We hope that this information, coupled with the class newsletters and the planners will give you a deeper understanding of the year your child is going to have in school. It might also give you some ideas for how you can best support them.

Summer 1 Topic - 'People Who Help Us!'

We have had a very exciting topic this term with lots of visitors to help enhance our learning! We have learnt about many different professions that help people, as well as many equally important roles where you have to help people, such as being a parent!

We have loved having many mums and dads in to share information about how they help people. We have heard information from; a mum, a police sergeant, a child psychologist, a nurse, a dental nurse, an ex-RAF commander, a fireman, a fitness instructor, a charity events manager and a Royal Mail manager!!!!! We have become very good at asking interesting questions and have learnt a lot!

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to come in and speak to us!

To finish our topic off we spent a couple of weeks learning abut 'Superheroes'. We were really surprised to have a visit from 'Big Jofli' who talked to us about how he helped people and even brought some of his superhero friends to see us too! We loved dancing to Big Jofli's favourite song, 'Gangnam Style'!

Sport Relief!

In the last week of term we all limbered up ready to take part in the 'Mosborough Mile' run for Sport Relief. The children were fantastic with every one of them running the whole, or most of the mile! We made sure we replenished ourselves afterwards with a big drink and a tasty bun! Thank you for all the donations.

World Book Day!

We had a very exciting 'World Book Day' with a visit from the famous author 'Kate Pankhurst' who writes the 'Mariella Mystery' books! She told us all about her work and stories and even brought along one of the characters to meet us, the 'Spaghetti Yeti!' We had the chance to think up our very own strange and wonderful characters and I think you will agree how wonderful our artwork is! We may even see some of these characters appearing in Kate's next book!

Chicks!

After a long wait our little chicks finally hatched! Cherry class had 4 chicks whilst Willow class had another 4! We decided to name our little babies, 'Judie Daisy', 'Millie', 'Fluffy' and 'Sparky'. The children have loved caring for them and petting them, although they all seemed to disappear when it came to cleaning out the cage!

Growing...

This term we are learning all about 'Growing'.

We had a visit from a lady called 'Debs' from the company 'Eggucation'. She brought with her 2 special friends, 'Cindy Pom-Pom' and 'Repecker'. We started off by learning about all the different animals that come from eggs before we got to meet our 2 special guests. We learnt all about the 2 hens and made comparisons about them. We found out that 'Cindy Pom-Pom' has blue skin! We fed the hens their favourite treats of dried meal worms and stroked them to compare the softness of their feathers. Debs left us with an incubator full of 20 eggs to hatch in our classrooms in 3 weeks time!

It was a very exciting day!

Alien Party!

Our 'Space' topic came to an end this week but we celebrated it in style with an 'Alien party'! The children (and parents) have worked really hard on their homework over the last 3 weeks to make alien costumes for the party, and they looked fantastic! We had a great day with a disco, an alien fashion show to show off our costumes and alien biscuit making.

Space!

Our new topic took off with a bang when we discovered an alien space ship had crashed in the school grounds! We were very brave when exploring it and looking for clues such as alien gloop! We found a letter from an alien called 'Zig' and were very relieved to discover he was friendly and looking to make new friends! We have had lots of fun writing letters to him!

Christmas Parties!

We celebrated all the hard work and effort we had put into the term with an excellent party on the last day of term. We had a visit from Santa and all got a present! We had a disco in the hall, played party games in the classroom and enjoyed some delicious party food! (Thank you to Mosborough Primary Group for preparing and funding these great activities!)

Christmas Nativity!

We worked so hard over the last few months to learn, songs, lines and actions to create our fantastic nativity play 'A Miracle in Town'. We hope you enjoyed it! If you didn't mange to see it here's a sneak peak on what you missed out on!

Harvest!

We had great fun creating a product to see at our 'Farmer's Market'. We decided to make 'Harvest Hotties' - hot chocolate cones with marshmallows and a chocolate stirring spoon. Making this product provided lots of learning opportunities; we practised colour mixing when creating orange and brown autumn colours for our tags, we practised our counting skills when counting out the correct number of scoops to fill each hot chocolate cone and we practised our writing skills when creating posters to advertise them! They were delicious!

Spec Savers!

We had a visit from the Spec Savers team that taught us about the importance of looking after our eyes. We all got the chance to try on glasses. Don't we look great!?

Traditional Tales!

We started our topic off with a bang with the discovery that a bear had been into our classroom! We found a big bear footprint on the carpet and after a hunt around school we found even more clues, including scratch marks, broken twigs and a giant bear poo!

We made posters and described the bear to warn everyone before moving on to our story 'Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.'

Newsletter 2

We're going on a Dinosaur hunt,

We're going to catch a big one,

What a beautiful day,

We're not scared!!

This week we went on a hunt for a dinosaur. We packed our rucksack, grabbed our map and off we went!

We followed the route over the red line, up and over the stairs, through the tress and under branches.

We have settled in!

It is wonderful to see most children now very settled in Cherry class and ready for learning. We have been doing lots of work during these first weeks all about the rules and routines of our new classroom.

Here is our Behaviour Charter. We all printed our hand to agree that we would try our best to always make these good choices.
