Olive Class

Alton Towers

On the last day of half term, we had a fantastic day at Alton Towers as a reward for all of our hard work during Sats week. The sun shone, the queues were short and the rides definitely didn't disappoint!

STEM WORKSHOP

We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in  Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering workshop in order to celebrate STEM week in school. Here are some photos of our different discoveries!

Blackburn Meadows

We had a super day learning about renewable energy. We had a go at testing out different methods of generating electricity to see how sustainable we thought they were.

Science Week

This week has been Science week in school. We have spent the week exploring the concept of 'Light'. This has included: how light travels, how shadows are formed and what happens when we change the angle of reflection. The children have developed their skills in working scientifically, particularly when making observations and forming conclusions to summarise what they have found out. We are looking forward to sharing our learning at the Science showcase on Monday morning!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a super busy and festive week in Olive class. We have enjoyed a pantomime, lots of sewing, some incredible art sessions, a Christmas dinner, a Christmas party and a fantastic Sparkle and Shine performance. Here are some photographs for you to enjoy. Well done to everyone for all of their hard work this half term. I hope you all have a relaxing break – see you in 2019!

How Glow Can You Go?

Today, Olive class looked fantastic as they raised awareness about the importance of being bright and being seen...

Farmers' Market

We have thoroughly enjoyed designing and making hanging signs for the Farmers’ Market in Olive class this week. After thinking carefully about how we wanted our final products to look and what their purpose would be, we then sawed, drilled, sanded and painted our outlines learning new technical vocabulary and skills throughout the process. Finally, we added the finishing touches – the string, the chalkboard and our writing. We were really proud of the end products which are the result of lots of team work and effort! Well done!

Migration Workshops

This week, we have participated in our second migration workshop. We have been exploring the terms asylum seeker and refugee, and have been considering in depth the reasons why some people might choose to flee their country.

Can you tell truth from tale in our fantastic 'fake news' videos? Listen carefully to see if you can get to the bottom of what really happened.

How can we tell truth from tale

Our new history themed topic is well and truly underway! This week, we have been discussing where we find our information from. We have explored the concept of 'fake news' and applied our critical thinking skills to decide whether news articles were real or fake. Here are some of the top tips that we produced using Pic Collage.
