Through Inspired Learning We Achieve Our Dreams

Redwood Class

Mrs Napier and Mrs Reeder

Welcome to Year 6 Redwood! This page will give you an insight into the exciting learning that happens in our class.

Gallery of dragon eyes.

During Science Week, the children investigated energy use around the world. They discovered some countries have large areas without an electricity supply and because of this would need to find alternative means of provision. Working in groups, the children used different  resources, depending on the country they represented, to design, make and test a wind turbine. In a fair test, we found that the UK group had produced the most powerful turbine, closely followed by Denmark and then China. See the pic collages below, including photos of the STEAM workshop the children attended.

Homework this month focused on our thinking in P4C which involved exploring how we use energy and whether the job someone does influences their energy use. The children asked family members for their opinions too.

In P4C, we thought about how we can make small changes to use less energy.

Have a look at some of our dragon artwork. They are not finished yet, so look again after the half term holiday.

We have begun to investigate the challenges of our world today as part of our Geography enquiry question: how is our world challenging us to change? In the pic collage below, we are investigating information presented as graphs, news articles and in pictures. In last week's computing lesson we explored the computer software 'Code bug'.

⭐Happy 2020 everyone! The slide show below shows some of the photos from our trip to Crucial Crew on Tuesday 7th January. The children had a hugely informative day learning about keeping themselves safe. Their behaviour was impeccable and the children were a credit to Mosborough Primary School. What a start to week 1!

Please see our spring 1 term overview and geography knowledge organiser below.

Happy Christmas and goodbye from us until 2020! Have a great holiday and enjoy our sewing, artwork and party photos below!!

Our Christmas stockings turned out 'sew' well!

Practising skills

Practising our sewing skills. It was 'sew' much fun!

A huge thank you to Lottie and Luke for being such hard working and dedicated Redwood class reps. We are very proud of you.

A busy end to our autumn term! This week, we have been learning how to sew! By next week, we will have made our stockings! We have also been thinking more about Maya customs and whether we could allow them today. After a term considering our overarching history question, 'How can we tell truth from tale?' , we have been sharing our thoughts on possible answers. Finally, we are beginning to write our suspenseful midnight fridge raid after working last week on effective verb choices. We will share some of our writing soon...

The photos below show pupils enjoying our learning in week 2 of the autumn 2 half-term. The Maya workshop with Dr. Davies was a huge success, focusing on exploring Maya inventiveness. We ended the week with a challenge to improve our scores in indoor athletics and try to achieve a personal best.

Please see below for information about the children's learning this half-term. We will be continuing with our over-arching question 'How can we tell truth from tale?' as we move time period to the Maya civilisation. Please see our Autumn 2 Overview which details learning in other areas of the curriculum.

Please have a look at our photos of our bird feeders that we made for the Farmers' Market. We think they turned out really well and the children enjoyed developing their sawing skills! Also, one of our photos shows the children enjoying today's visit from The Red Cross. It was a really informative session and the children learned a lot about migration. We will continue thinking about this area through P4C lessons over the next few weeks.

Redwood have had a hugely busy and enjoyable first half-term in Year 6. Please see below for some of our learning which includes consuming a fair bit of food! No complaints there, especially as one of our Mindful Monday sessions included mindful chocolate eating! As we begin week 8, we still have our enterprise week to complete before Thursday's Farmers' Market, so please check in a couple of days for further photos of our designing and making process. No clues yet as to what we are making!
