Our Mission Statement for Physical Education (P.E)

At Mosborough Primary School our Mission Statement is 'Be Healthy, Be Happy'. In order to achieve our Mission Statement we aim to deliver stimulating and exciting Physical Education that suits the needs of all children. This will be delivered through our school curriculum and extra curricular activities.

Linked to this we will be providing our children with the knowledge of how to keep fit, stay healthy and recognise the importance of developing skills, which will prepare them for their future. Within school the children will be learning to work as part of a team and indepenently, recognising and developing their own strengths.

We recognise and enjoy celebrating our children's personal and sporting achievements and look forward to more of these in the coming year.

Any links we forge with local clubs are advertised at the bottom of this page.

School Games Orienteering Competition

Huge congratulations to our Orienteering team who competed at Westfield in the School Games competition. The Y3/4 boys finished 3rd and the Y5/6 girls finished 4th; both teams will now progress to the South Yorkshire finals!

Champions of the World!

The school is extremely proud of Louie, Alicia and Sam. All three pupils were successful at the Unified WTKA World Championships, last week. All three pupils train with the Sheffield Dragons and competed as part of Team GB in Spain. They each won a  vast array of medals, which they struggled to lift around their necks for our photographs!

The school was fortunate to have Master Terry Johnston join us in assembly to talk about the pupils. He praised their dedication and commitment to the sport and told us about how talented these athletes were.

All three have benefitted from Sport Premium funding as part of the school's 'Talented Athlete Scheme'.

We are immensely proud of them and look forward to seeing them all representing Great Britain at the Olympics, one day!

Y4 basketball with Sheffield Hatters' coach!

Y4 have enjoyed basketball sessions with GB and Sheffield Hatters coach, Vanessa. Last half term a mixed team also enjoyed lunchtime sessions where they trained for the Hotshots competition. They narrowly missed out on qualification for the next round of the competition. This half term the club is open to girls only. At the bottom of the page is a link to other Hatters training sessions available to both boys and girls.

Below are some photographs of the girls practising their lay ups at the lunchtime club

Victory for the gymnastics team once again!

Well done to our 2 Y3/4 gymnastics teams who came 1st and 2nd in the Key Steps competition at Westfield! They performed the routines brilliantly. There were 16 other teams in the competition so we are very proud of our achievements.

Here are some photos of the teams and a video of the

Sports Hall Athletics' Superstars!

Huge congratulations to the Sports Hall Athletics team who won the Westfield competition. We now progress to the 'Points Learning Network' final which will be held at Ponds Forge on Wednesday 25th November 2015. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of the team! Good luck in the Points final!

More success! We are now through to the Sheffield City finals which will be at the English Institute of Sport on Wednesday 13th January. Good luck!!

Girls Football team

Here is our girls football team before their very first match! The girls played Norton Free and Nether Green in the ESFA U11's tournament. They played brilliantly and celebrated wildly after their first win against Norton Free. They finished 2nd in the tournament and still had these huge smiles on their faces! This is the start of great things for this team who will be facing more teams later in the year. Good luck girls!

Cross Country 2015/2016

Here are the cross country fixtures for the 2015/2016 season for Y4-6. A letter will be sent out the week of each race with details and reply slips so we can gather an indication of who will be attending the race. New red running tops have been ordered so if you need one see Miss Mason. Parents are responsible for taking their children to the race, and are responsible for them for the duration of the event. We advise that parents walk the course to help the children prepare prior to each race. There will be members of staff at the event to support the team and record the scores.

Competitions and Events 2014/2015

Well done to the Y5/6 Sports Hall Athletics team who came 2nd in the competition at Westfield on 6th November. We lost out on the top spot by 5 points, as a result of this we have been invited to another stage of the competition which will be held in April.

Some Y1/2 children attended a 'Christmas' Multi-skills festival at Westfield in December where they took part in a range of games and activities with other schools from across the family. They had a fantastic time and showed off some of the skills they had been practicing in P.E lessons. Well done!

Huge congratulations to the Y3/4 Gymnastics teams who placed 1st and 2nd in the competition at Westfield on 22nd January!

Well done to the Y3 Volleyball team who competed at the EIS in a sitting volleyball competition on Thursday 5th March. Not only did we win the award for 'most matches won', we also won an award for 'excellent teamwork'! They had a fantastic afternoon and were super role models for the other children who attended the event.

Congratulations to the Y5 boys football team. After a successful pre-league tournament at Norton Free, we faced some tricky opponents  in a tournament at Birley Primary School on Thurs 12th March. We had 4 matches to play and the results were as follows: we had a 3-0 win against Birley Spa, a 2-1 win against Reignhead Primary, a 0-0 draw against Brook House Juniors and a 0-2 defeat against the hosts, Birley Primary. We are hoping this will place us 2nd in the league; we are eagerly awaiting the final results!

A small group of Y6 play leaders will be attending a conference at Westfield School on Tues 14th April. This will be a great opportunity to meet other play leaders from schools across Sheffield and  to share good ideas!

Congratulations again to the Y5/6 Sports Hall Athletics team who came 4th in the competition at Ponds Forge on Tuesday 21st April. We are excited for the summer athletics programme to start!

On Tuesday the 28th April a team of KS1 and KS2 children will be travelling to the English Institute of Sport to compete in the annual 'Points Learning Network Games'. This is an exciting Olympic-games type event which involves an intra-school competition, then our school winners' points will go forward against the other schools competing to see who will win the Network Games trophy!

KS1 will be competing in the morning (9.15am - 12pm) - children will need to arrive at 8.15am, register at the office, drop bags off at their classrooms and meet in the hall. The coach will be leaving at 8.30am. Children will be back at school for around 12.30pm, so they can have lunch at school as normal.

KS2 will be competing in the afternoon (12.45pm - 3.30pm) - we will be leaving school at 12pm therefore children will need to bring a packed lunch to eat before we go. Children can get changed into their PE kits at school before we go. We will be arriving back to school around 4.00pm and children will need to be collected at this time.

Everyone in school has been busy making flags and banners for our athletes to take to the EIS; we have also had an exciting T-shirt logo competition (winners will be announced soon!) We can't wait to hear all about the day and wish our athletes every success.

On Thursday 7th May, our dance group will be performing at the 'Westfield Community Dance Show!' This event is at Westfield school from 6.00 - 7.30pm. They are currently busy learning and rehearsing the routine at lunch times; we know all the hard work will be worth it on the night!

Well done to the Y4/5/6 Cricket team who made it through to the semi-final of the 'Raynor Trophy Competition'. We faced tough opposition and played well throughout the semi-final. The cricket team definitely deserve the award for 'most improved Mosborough team' this year!! We are hoping for great success for the 2015/2016 season.
