Health week           Health week          Health week          Health week            Health week          Health week

During Health week, the children learned the importance of a balanced diet, exercise, sleep, a healthy mind and a healthy body.

They tried, designed and made their own coleslaw. To end the week, we did a long walk to Ridgeway to enjoy a picnic and more active games!

Take a look at all the fun we had!

Eureka!

To celebrate our learning 'How have we changed?' we visited Eureka! The National Children's Museum.

We went into the 'All about section' which helped us explore how our bodies change. We also went into the 'Living and working together' area to see how we will change as we grow up!

Take a look at all the fun we had!

FS Willow: Mark Rothko inspired artwork

Willow Class are Artists

As it is the 'create' term, we have been investigating some famous artists. We looked at Mark Rothko to get some inspiration for painting and Andy Warhol for inspiration with photography. We analysed them very carefully before creating our own master pieces!

We are still exploring our question 'How have we changed?' so we used this to think about the changes in our emotions.

Take a look at our painting techniques (side to side brush strokes and leaving the edges) and how we have portrayed each emotion of happy, sad, angry and disgust.

FS Willow: Drawing week!

Drawing week!

To begin our 'Create' topic, we have explored our drawing skills. We arrived back from the Easter holidays to see lots of drawings in the classroom. It was on tables, on whiteboards and on paper- everywhere!

We read the book 'The boy who just kept on drawing' and we received a message that it was Keith (the author and boy in the story) because he just loves to draw! This inspired us. We practised drawing straight lines, curvy lines, overlapping lines and circles. We used a variety of writing equipment.

Take a look above at our efforts to celebrate drawing!

What is my child going to learn about this term?

We have sent home a copy of the learning we have planned for your child this term. On this sheet you should find an explanation of what will be covered for each area of the national curriculum. You will also find aspects we describe as ‘memorable experiences’. These are the elements that will bring the learning to life for the children. You will also see an ‘end product’ section. Here we describe what the children are working towards; this could be a display, performance or a piece of writing. We believe this helps to give the children a focus or reason for learning the information. You will also find references made to ‘drip and block’. Drip refers to things that happen all the time, such as spellings, for example. Block refers to things that do not fall naturally into the theme and as such are taught as discreet, unrelated units.

Alongside this, your child will also have a knowledge organiser - a sheet of key facts and dates to learn which will help them with their topic for that term.

REAL Literacy Workshop - Friday 8th March

We had our first REAL Literacy workshop on Friday 8th March. Lots of parents and relatives joined us to read and write during lots of exciting tasks with the children. The children enjoyed enriching their experiences of literacy alongside their grown up. Thank you to all those who came along. We hope you enjoyed making your dinosaur underpants sandwiches!

Next workshop will be REAL Maths on Friday 29th March.

Another egg delivery!

Today the children were so excited to have a visitor.

The visitor arrived with some special eggs for the incubator and some lovely chicken friends too!

The children learned what animals come out of eggs and how chickens look after them.

Above you can see us with our visitor Debbie and her chicken friends!

Willow class: We found an egg!

The Cow that laid an Egg!

After returning from the half term holidays, a strange egg was discovered in the Foundation garden.

It was black and white and sat on a bed of straw. The children had some great guesses about who it may belong to. Some guesses included- a chicken, a dalmation, a dinosaur and a cow.

We learned that it was from the story 'The Cow that laid an egg!'.

We spent all week looking after it and thought how we could make it a home.

You can see us discovering it above.

Willow class: Red Riding Hood's missing things

Red Riding Hood is lost!

Willow class received a letter about some missing items. We went to explore straight away!

On our way we found a basket, fruit, cakes, flowers and a red cape. All day we predicted who the things could belong to.

The next day, we learned that it was Little Red Riding Hood. She thanked us for finding her things and apologised for getting lost on the way to her Grandma's.

We wrote back to her to explain where she had got lost.

Above you can see our adventure for the missing things!

Willow class: Building homes

Let's build a house!

As our question is all about 'What makes a home', we thought we would have a week learning some factual information about different homes and the materials used.

The children helped to build different houses and then write instructions too.

Take a look at our wonderful homes- a tent, igloo, bungalow, log cabin, kit house and all.

Scientists at home!

After our investigative week using and evaluating materials, we asked the children to produce a home for the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We asked the children to consider the materials and whether it would be strong enough to stand and waterproof to keep them sheltered.

Have a look at the fantastic contributions above!

Willow class: Science week!

Science week!

From 21st of January, Mosborough Primary had their very own Science week.

Foundation began by reading 'The Gingerbread man'. Just before reading the ending, we thought how we could change it and get the Gingerbread man over safely. But how?

The children worked on their ideas all week long!

They created boats, planes, bridges and many more creative ideas!

We also investigated with a variety of materials to make them even stronger.

Have a look above.

FS Willow: Goldilocks stops by!

Goldilocks stops by!

During a normal Monday at school, the children kept finding mysterious things. They were told about a broken chair outside, split porridge on the table and blankets on Miss Plant's chair!

The children thought hard and made great predictions. Some thought the Grinch, others thought the Pesky Rat again and some thought Goldilocks!

After checking the CCTV cameras, we learned it was Goldilocks! She wanted to be friends and learn what good sharing looks like.

Above is us finding Goldilocks.

FS Willow: That Pesky Rat

Who is that living in the dustbin?

After Christmas, we discovered our outside area was a mess! Who could have made the mess? It was Tiddles- also known as 'That Pesky Rat'.

We read the story and discovered that he just wanted a home with an owner and a name and finally found one!

We thought about what made our homes so special. Some of us thought our family, toys, bedroom or supper!

Above are some of the photos from our visitor Tiddles!

FS Willow: Treasure Showcase

Our Treasure Showcase!

To celebrate the end of our topic, "What do we treasure?", we invited our grown ups in to see our wonderful learning journey.

They could explore the variety of areas covered like: who we treasure, what we treasure about ourselves, which pets we treasure and also what Hindus and Christians treasure.

It was amazing to see so many parents celebrating with us. Thank you to those who attended.

Above are photos of our morning.

FS WIllow: St Mark's Church visit

Trip to the church!

To explore what Christians treasure around Christmas, we went to St Mark's Church. The children had opportunities to learn about the Christingle, Nativity story, Christmas trees and light the Advent candles.

Revered Sue shared some beautiful songs about Jesus with us. We then shared some of the special ones from our Christmas play.

Have a look above for our afternoon at the church.

Christmas celebrations

In Willow class, we had a special Nativity to put on show to parents. We all had an important role to play.

We explored who Christians treasure and thought about why our roles were so important.

Above are some pictures of us in our costumes!

Making chapattis!

In Willow class this week, we have been reading the story 'Chapatti Moon'. The story is about Mrs Kapoor who cooks lots of delicious Indian food and one of her chapattis escapes through the market and ends up in the sky like a moon.

So we thought it would only be right to make our own chapattis and experience some real Indian food.

The children mixed in a bowl, kneaded with their knuckles and rolled with a rolling pin.

Take a look above at our wonderful efforts!

FS Willow: Phonics workshop

Phonics Parent meeting

On Tuesday 13th November, we hosted a phonics parent meeting straight from school. It was great to see so many of you attend, thank you.

For those who could not attend, the information from the session is above. We hope this is helpful and helps you understand how phonics is taught at Mosborough.

FS Willow: Diva lamps

Diwali celebrations!

We began the term by immersing into the Diwali celebration. The children made a range of lanterns for their home learning and these have been displayed.

The children have also made fireworks from play dough and some beautiful diva lamps from salt dough. The children counted how many sequins they wanted on their lamp.

Take a look at their amazing diva lamps above.

FS Willow: Pirate Pizza making for the Harvest market

Harvest!

To end a wonderful first term, the children took part in the harvest market. We made pirate inspired pizzas using vegetables the farmers have grown for us during the year.

We evaluated the taste of some, practised some key skills like spreading, cutting and mixing, designed our own pizzas and made them to sell at the market.

It is safe to say they went down well as we sold out in 15 minutes! Amazing work by the children.

Here is us in action:

FS Willow: Message in a bottle

Which pets do we treasure?

Our focus book for the week was 'Pirate's perfect pet'. The book was all about Captain Crave finding his perfect pet. This turned out to be a parrot.

The following day, we discovered a message in a bottle! The message was a checklist to ensure we too knew what our perfect pet is or could be.

The children chose and wrote about their perfect pet. Some chose dogs and cats, others chose snakes and parrots!

Below is us finding the message in a bottle:

FS WILLOW: Finding Grannies treasured items

Who do we treasure?

We read a book called 'My Granny is a pirate'. On the 2nd October, Pirate Granny sent us a map and a letter because she needed help finding all of her treasured possessions. As we followed her map, we thought whether the item was something Granny treasured like her dog, parrot or jewellery or whether some items belonged to other people with different interests e.g. football, baby clothes, teddy bear.

We had a great conversation about how much Granny treasured her grandson and her pets. We then thought who we treasured. Lots of children treasured their mums, dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents, aunties etc.

Below is us searching for Grannies treasured possessions and deciding what belongs to Granny and what belongs to someone else.

FS Willow: Captain Dread!

"I am good at dancing".        "I like my pigtails".        "I'm good at teaching my brother things".      "I like my hair".        "I am good at reading".             "I am good at golf".

What do we treasure about ourselves?

We had an exciting visitor in Willow class on Monday 24th September! Captain Dread came to tell us all about how to be a pirate with his book 'How to be a pirate'. He told us what pirates are good at and he told us what he likes about himself.

We then thought what we liked about ourselves and what we were good at.

The children said and wrote some lovely things like:

First full week in Willow!

As our focus question is 'What do we treasure', the children were set a home learning task to create their own treasure box with 5 items that they treasure the most. We had some lovely, creative boxes brought in along with some very special objects like photos, toys, hobbies and handmade creations. The children have talked about who they treasure, what they treasure and why. It has been a lovely week.

Willow's reward system!

In Willow class, daily rewards are given by using ClassDojo. This allows us to give points for being respectful, independent, curious, creative and showing stickability. Parents can track the amount of Dojo's by joining the ClassDojo App. Once a child has reached 20, 50 or 100, they receive a special prize to celebrate! See below.

As well as this, house points are given when a child has earned a bigger reward. Such as constantly showing one of the learning qualities above or having a wow moment in their learning.

FS Willow: Class Charter

Willow class charter!

In Willow class, we discussed the good choices we should make in the classroom. All of these choices were put into our treasure chest. The bad choices were thrown into the ocean as we do not want these behaviours in our learning environment. The children all marked their agreement with a finger print.
