Through Inspired Learning We Achieve Our Dreams

We Are Oak!

What is my child going to learn about this term?

We have sent home a copy of the learning we have planned for your child this term. On this sheet you should find an explanation of what will be covered for each area of the national curriculum. You will also find aspects we describe as ‘memorable experiences’. These are the elements that will bring the learning to life for the children. You will also see an ‘end product’ section. Here we describe what the children are working towards; this could be a display, performance or a piece of writing. We believe this helps to give the children a focus or reason for learning the information. You will also find references made to ‘drip and block’. Drip refers to things that happen all the time, such as spellings, for example. Block refers to things that do not fall naturally into the theme and as such are taught as discreet, unrelated units.

We hope that this information, coupled with the class newsletters and the planners will give you a deeper understanding of the year your child is going to have in school. It might also give you some ideas for how you can best support them.

Our Fair Trade Movie!

We all contributed to a whole school movie, which was shown at a special movie night screening on Monday 20th March, showcasing our Fair Trade Fortnight learning.

We hope you enjoy watching our chapter from the movie!

Spring Term Two

We hope that you have all had an enjoyable holiday from school.  We are very excited to beginning our new topic linked to the Fairtrade Fortnight.  We will be exploring the question: 'What is trade?'

Spring Term

We have had a very exciting half term since our return to school following Christmas.

As part of our R.E. project we have been finding out about the role of a leader.  We have been able to interview our Deputy Head Teacher Mrs Smales as well as Reverend Jen.  Before the interview we thought of lots of questions about their role and the qualities needed to be a good leader.

The Caribbean

We have really enjoyed our Geography topic about the Caribbean.  We have also linked it to our Design Technology projects which we have based all around food from the Caribbean.  We have enjoyed tasting lots of different food and we have practised key skills we need in order to be able to prepare the food.

During Spring Two we will make our own Caribbean dishes.

Safer Internet Day

In February we celebrated Safer Internet Day 2017.  As part of our home learning we were asked to make posters promoting the safer use of the internet.  Here are some of ours.

The Big Spring Sing

We are busy preparing for the Big Spring Sing which is taking place in March.  We have been working hard with our teachers in school to try and learn the songs.  We were very lucky to have Claire from Sheffield Music Hub who came to work with us.

Magna Science Adventure

We had a great time at Magna.  The children were enthusiastic participants in two workshops where we learned all about different materials that they can find at home.

Anti-bullying Week

We have been learning about how to be a good friend.  Liam from Excel came to visit us to talk about being positive with those around us and we finished the week in style when we dressed in spotacular clothes to support Children in Need.

Harvest Farmer's Market

We worked together as a team to make magnetic pegs.  We created a stall and sold our fantastic products on the final day of term.

In school we have been discussing British Values and how they link to our values here at Mosborough Primary School.

Below is our class 'Tree of Values'.

The value that we are focussing on this half term is Being the best we can be.
